Tis the Season – Holiday Décor Trends You’ll Want to Know About

It’s the most wonderful time of year – it’s finally here! A time of joy and glad tidings. There is no better way to get into the spirit of the season than redecorating. Pull out the storage bins, pack away your everyday adornments and make room for this year’s holiday décor. You may want to consider adding a few new items to your collection this year; there are some really beautiful themes and statement pieces that could add a little pizazz to your traditional décor.

Natural & Rustic

Bring the outside in this year with pine cones, birch bark and evergreen garland. The forest green and natural brown tones make for a cozy, earthy comfort this holiday season. Berries and reindeer, mixed with plaids, flannels, wool, crackling fires and flickering candlelight provide the peace and warmth to make your home welcoming and festive.

GOLD!

I am so glad gold is back in style; it creates classic elegance that shines bright and cheerful during the holidays. Glam up your holiday with splashes gold. Instead of “silver and gold” as the song proclaims, pair your gold with white for a classy look, or a splash of another holiday color – like red or green – to add some sparkle to the more traditional appeal.

Oversized Letters & Festive Words

State the obvious. Spell out festive words and exclamations with oversized letters. The type of letters you choose can add definition to your décor theme. Wooden or light up letters are the most common, but your options are truly unlimited: pillows, serving trays, candles, fabric, mirrors, garland, or other decorations used to build a letter (balls, pine cones, flowers, etc.).

Everyday Items with a Festive Flair

Adding a festive flair to the home décor you already have is simple and practical. Plus, you can turn on the holiday charm quickly, without a lot of effort. Toss a few pillows on the couch, swap out your candles for those with a holiday scent or color, add some pinecones and greenery to your vases or lanterns – the ideas are endless. Tip: If you are looking for a DIY holiday project, this is a good place to start. It’s fairly easy because you already have most of the essentials around your home.

Clever Card Displays

I’m saving the best for last – or at least the one that is nearest and dearest to my heart, and truly carriers the sentiment of the season. Have you noticed your holiday greeting card quantity slowly diminishing year after year? We can thank the internet for that… but I’d like to advocate card displays as a holiday-décor-must this year, as a way to rekindle this tradition. Holiday greeting cards connect us to our family and friends – and this décor keeps your loved ones front and center throughout the season. These sentiments and greetings are what make the holidays so important and meaningful, so let’s not let this tradition fade.
